Bible verses for when you feel like a failure

A big mistake or a string of letdowns can make 'failure' feel like your name. The Bible has a lot to say to people who've fallen.

The thought

“I'm a failure, and I always will be.”

The truth

Falling is not the same as being finished, because God's mercy and strength are still there when you're down.

Four verses for today

  1. 1Proverbs 24:16

    Read in context
For though a righteous man may fall seven times, he still gets up; but the wicked stumble in bad times.

Falling is treated as a normal part of life, and getting up is what marks the person. It doesn't say the fall never hurts.

  2. 2Micah 7:8

    Read in context
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

The prophet is sitting in darkness and still says he'll rise, because the Lord is his light.

  3. 3Psalm 73:26

    Read in context
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

The writer admits his body and heart can fail. God is the one who holds him up anyway.

  4. 4Lamentations 3:22

    Read in context
Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail.

This was written in the middle of ruin, and it still says God's mercies don't run out.

Verses from the Berean Standard Bible.

A prayer

Lord, I messed up and it hurts. Thank you that I'm not defined by my worst day. Help me stand up again, and hold me while I do. Amen.
